Introduction text

The year is 50 B.C. All of Gaul is occupied by the Romans. All? Not quite! A village inhabited by the indomitable Gauls is holding out, strong as ever, against the invaders. Life is not easy for the Roman legionaries stationed in the fortified camps of Aquarium, Delirium, Nohappimedium and Opprobrium...

In the end of the 1970s some stories have been serialized in some newspapers in the US and Canada in comic strip format (with somewhat cropped panels) in yet another translation.

In 1977 "Asterix the Gladiator" [4] was published in the newspaper Orlando Sentinel Star:

And in 1979 "Asterix in Spain" [14] was published in the sunday comics supplement of the Toronto Sun:

Another one printed in 1978 is "Asterix and the Great Crossing" [22].
